Update: We have
in cash donations and pledged commitments!
Beloved Church Family and Friends,
When the full effect of the recession hit Asbury in 2008 it seriously impacted the giving to the church. The leadership took all the appropriate measures to reduce expenditures in line with this reduced income. Staff positions were consolidated, program line items had funding cuts and close supervision was given to all expenditures. The budget for the Trustees was one of those areas that was impacted. All of these efforts made it possible for Asbury to weather the recession and still pay all its expenses and mission obligations at 100%.
The present trends are now pointing to a solid financial recovery from the past recession years. One of the effects of the budget cuts during those leaner years is that we had to postpone some needed improvements to our facility and to also put off setting money aside for some Capital Improvements that would need to be addressed in the future.
The Finance Committee, Trustees and Laity Council have asked that we engage in a Capital Fund Campaign to raise $136,000 to address a number of improvements that need immediate attention or will need attention very soon. The list of the improvements is included with this letter in order of priority. Top on the list is the painting of the entire outside of the church. This is a major project but one every homeowner knows is essential to pride of appearance. The way we look on the outside speaks volumes to those who pass by about how we feel about our facilities. On the list are also the replacement of some air conditioning units and some improvements to the new Children’s Worship Center and the church kitchen.
Over the next few weeks you will be hearing more about this Capital program. I am asking you to pray about making a second-mile commitment that can be paid in a lump sum or over the next twelve months.
Asbury has ministered for over fifty years in the Maitland community. Those who founded the church left us a powerful legacy not just of ministry but of buildings as well. It is our responsibility to be good stewards of their sacred trust. I know this is a very attainable goal if we all accept our responsibility for the care and keeping of this beautiful facility to the glory of Christ.
